Trauma doesn’t simply live in the past—it can shape how the brain and nervous system respond to the present. In this engaging training, participants will explore the neurobiology of trauma and learn how traumatic experiences can influence memory, attention, emotional regulation, threat perception, and the body’s stress-response systems. Complex neuroscience will be translated into accessible, clinically relevant concepts that help therapists better understand what may be happening beneath the symptoms they see in the therapy room.
Most importantly, this training will move from “What happens in the brain and nervous system?” to “What does this mean for treatment?” Participants will explore how an understanding of trauma neurobiology can inform case conceptualization, psychoeducation, and the selection of interventions that support safety, regulation, integration, and healing. Through practical examples and clinical applications, therapists will leave with a clearer framework for understanding trauma responses—and concrete ways to help clients move from patterns organized around survival toward greater flexibility, connection, and resilience.
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Comprehend the key neurobiological processes involved in trauma, including changes in brain functioning, stress-response systems, and autonomic nervous system activity.
- Examine how trauma-related neurobiological adaptations may contribute to difficulties with emotional regulation, memory, attention, threat perception, and interpersonal functioning.
- Apply principles of trauma neurobiology to case conceptualization and the development of trauma-informed treatment strategies.
- Utilize practical interventions and psychoeducational approaches that support nervous system regulation, safety, integration, and resilience in clients affected by trauma.
