Addiction in the Therapy Room: Signs, Symptoms, and Solutions provides therapists
with the essential knowledge and skills to address addiction in clinical practice. This
course defines addiction, highlighting key signs and symptoms to enhance early
identification. Participants will explore effective screening methods, brief interventions,
and strategies for making referrals when necessary. Through case studies and group
discussions, therapists will have the opportunity to apply their learning to real-world
scenarios, ensuring they leave equipped to support clients struggling with addiction
effectively.

Upon completion of this training, learners will be able to:

  • Define addiction and differentiate between substance use, misuse, and substance use disorders in a clinical context.

  • Identify early warning signs, symptoms, and behavioral indicators of addiction in therapeutic settings.

  • Utilize evidence-informed screening tools to assess substance-related concerns during clinical intake and ongoing treatment.

  • Implement brief intervention strategies, including motivational enhancement techniques, to support client readiness for change.

  • Develop appropriate referral pathways and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary providers and recovery resources.
