This experiential training introduces clinicians to the foundations and clinical applications of expressive arts therapy as a multimodal approach to healing and self-discovery. Participants will explore how creative expression—including visual art, movement, music, writing, collage, sandtray, storytelling, and symbolic imagery—can access emotional material beyond words and support insight, regulation, resilience, and transformation. Drawing from humanistic psychology, trauma-informed care, neuroscience, and expressive arts traditions, the workshop emphasizes process over artistic skill and offers clinicians practical interventions that can be integrated into a variety of therapeutic settings. Ethical considerations, cultural responsiveness, and adaptations for diverse populations will also be addressed.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Define expressive arts therapy and its foundational theoretical principles.
- Identify clinical benefits of creative expression in psychotherapy.
- Apply expressive arts interventions across a range of clinical concerns.
- Recognize how nonverbal expression can support trauma processing and emotional regulation.
- Develop ethically and culturally responsive expressive arts interventions.
- Integrate creativity-based approaches into existing therapeutic orientations and treatment planning.
