This webinar explores the application of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in medical settings, with a focus on palliative care and hospice environments. Participants will learn how to integrate the four core DBT skill areas—mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness—to provide compassionate, skillful support to patients facing serious illness and end-of-life concerns. The course emphasizes the power of validation in fostering dignity, emotional safety, and connection in medical care. Through clinical case studies and real-world scenarios, clinicians will develop practical strategies to use DBT principles to support both patients and their families in coping with grief, uncertainty, and emotional distress.

Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least five core tenets and skills within DBT.
  • Discover methods of supporting patients and family members in medical settings using DBT skills such as validation and radical acceptance.
  • Explain at least three methods of integrating DBT skills with patients and families.
