Trauma is not just stored in the mind—it is held in the body. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a powerful, body-oriented approach to trauma treatment that integrates somatic awareness with traditional psychotherapeutic techniques. Developed by Dr. Pat Ogden, SP helps clients access, process, and resolve traumatic experiences through the wisdom of the body, rather than relying solely on verbal narrative. This introductory webinar is designed for therapists and clinicians interested in expanding their trauma-informed practice with somatic tools. Participants will gain foundational knowledge of SP’s core principles and techniques, including the use of mindful tracking, movement, posture, and nervous system regulation. Emphasis will be placed on how to work safely with trauma-related symptoms through a bottom-up approach. Clinicians will leave with a deeper appreciation for how trauma manifests somatically, along with practical skills to begin integrating somatic awareness into their therapeutic work.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the basic principles of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and how it supports trauma treatment.
- Explain how trauma shows up in the body and the difference between top-down and bottom-up approaches.
- Identify simple somatic techniques—such as tracking, movement, and posture—that help regulate the nervous system.
- Apply basic somatic strategies safely when working with clients who have trauma symptoms.
