Poor communication costs the U.S. healthcare system an estimated $1.7 billion in malpractice expenses and nearly 2,000 lives each year. In fact, research shows that up to 80% of serious medical errors are linked to miscommunication (CIRCO Strategies). Why do these breakdowns happen so often—and what can we do differently? This session explores practical strategies for delivering difficult news, improving everyday communication, and responding with clarity and compassion in high-stakes situations. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, mental health provider, or support staff, you’ll gain tools to navigate complex conversations with greater confidence and care.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common causes and consequences of communication breakdowns in healthcare and human services settings.
  • Apply effective strategies for delivering difficult or sensitive information with clarity and empathy.
  • Develop greater self-awareness around personal communication styles and how they influence interactions with clients, patients, and colleagues.
