Soothing Emotional Triggers: Implementing DBT Distress Tolerance and Emotion Regulation Skills (2HR)

How often do you hear the words “I went from 0-100 and I don’t know why! There’s no way I can stop it.” This course will help you and the client work through how to identify and manage emotional triggers and the behavioral urges that follow. The course starts with a brief overview of trauma, the nervous system, and what exactly quantifies an emotional trigger. But, even with an understanding, clients still need support in learning how to manage distress in ways that feel effective and comfortable but also lead to increased self-confidence in the ability to change emotional response in the moment. This training will teach you practical, tangible Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills such as Distress Tolerance and Emotional Regulation to help clients stop the train from running off the track. We’ve even added in a few FREE bonus skills!

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify biology associated with under-controlled responses to “triggers” in the environment and how to teach it to clients.
  • Teach clients how to counteract biology with in-the-moment techniques to manage emotional distress.
  • Guide clients to identify and use long-term skills for reducing reactivity to identified triggers.

This course qualifies for 2 CE hours of Clinical, Psychopathology, Evidence-Based Practices, and General Skill Building training.
