Clinical supervision in social work and mental health is when a supervisor helps social workers and counselors develop their skills and practice. The goal is to protect clients and ensure high-quality services. This course reviews nine models of supervision, guidance in determining a theory-based supervision approach, and an overview of the effectiveness of using a variety of methods and techniques in supervision. The visual, auditory, reader/writer, and kinesthetic or VARK Questionnaire is reviewed to assists supervisors to assess for supervisee’s learning styles.
Objectives:
Review and differentiate between the nine models of supervision and how to choose the best method for optimal supervisee learning.
Review the application and implications of using the VARK Questionnaire to determine supervisee learning style.
Discuss how to determine a theory-based supervision approach.
Discuss the rationale for using a variety of methods and techniques in supervision.
