This engaging and experiential workshop introduces clinicians to journaling therapy as a powerful tool for emotional processing, self-exploration, trauma recovery, and psychological growth. Participants will explore a variety of therapeutic writing approaches, including expressive writing, letter-writing, dialoguing exercises, shadow journaling, narrative reconstruction, parts work journaling, gratitude practices, mixed-media approaches, and future-self reflections. Drawing from narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral approaches, expressive arts therapy, trauma-informed care, and positive psychology, the training emphasizes how structured writing practices can deepen insight, support emotional regulation, and facilitate meaning-making both in and outside the therapy room. Ethical considerations, client readiness, and adaptations for neurodivergent, resistant, or highly self-critical clients will also be explored.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify therapeutic benefits and clinical applications of journaling interventions.
- Differentiate between various forms of therapeutic writing and reflective practices.
- Apply journaling techniques to support emotional regulation, insight, and healing.
- Adapt journaling interventions for diverse client populations and clinical presentations.
- Recognize contraindications and ethical considerations related to therapeutic writing.
- Develop structured journaling prompts and exercises aligned with treatment goals.
