This webinar focuses on the importance of self-care in the helping professions, emphasizing that to be effective in caring for others, one must first take care of oneself. Participants will explore the concepts of vicarious trauma, secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout, as well as understand how these phenomena can impact their personal and professional lives.

Through interactive discussions and reflective exercises, attendees will learn to recognize the signs of burnout and develop strategies for maintaining their emotional well-being. The webinar challenges the notion that self-care is selfish. Instead, it frames self-care as a necessary component of providing quality care to others.

Participants will be encouraged to give themselves permission to prioritize their own needs, learn to set boundaries and develop personalized self-care routines. By the end of the webinar helping professionals will have gained valuable insights and practical tools to maintain their passion for their work while safeguarding their mental and emotional health.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define and differentiate between vicarious trauma, secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout, and identify their potential impacts on helping professionals.
  • Analyze personal attitudes towards self-care and develop strategies to overcome barriers to prioritizing one’s well-being.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recognize early signs of burnout and implement appropriate self-care
  • Develop effective boundary-setting techniques to maintain a healthy work-life balance while continuing to provide quality care to others.
  • Construct a personalized self-care plan that addresses physical, emotional, and mental health needs specific to the demands of helping professional roles.
