Navigating Ethics for Telehealth and AI prepares mental health professionals to address the evolving ethical challenges of delivering care in a virtual environment. As telehealth platforms and AI tools increasingly shape clinical practice, therapists must thoughtfully balance innovation with professional responsibility.
This course examines core ethical principles—including confidentiality, informed consent, boundaries, equity, bias, data security, crisis management, and accountability—within the lens virtual and AI-supported care. Participants will explore the ethical implications of AI-assisted documentation, clinical decision support tools, chatbots, and algorithmic bias, while ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards. Through movie clips, case examples and practical strategies, clinicians will reflect and discuss ethical considerations together to develop a framework for ethical decision-making that promotes client safety, trust, and high-quality care in technology-enhanced practice.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify and apply ethical principles relevant to telehealth and AI-supported mental health care.
- Analyze ethical risks and challenges associated with virtual therapy and emerging AI technologies.
- Evaluate legal, regulatory, and professional standards related to digital practice and AI integration.
- Implement practical strategies to maintain ethical compliance, protect client privacy, and mitigate bias in technology-enhanced care.
