Deep in our psyche, we all carry versions of ourselves from when we were young: our inner children.  If we experience trauma and/or unmet needs, our inner children become frozen at the time the wounding occurs. Even as we physically age, these parts of ourselves are developmentally stuck and continue to suffer, which can impact our lives as adults.

Healing occurs when we reparent ourselves by reconnecting with our inner children. We tend to their needs. We pay attention. We extend compassion and love.

In this experiential and interactive training, you will learn creative ways to engage in this work with clients. We’ll explore journaling, letter-writing, art activities, guided visualizations, and other strategies from the world of expressive arts therapies.

Please be sure to have a journal or notebook on hand if you’d like to participate in activities.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

• Identify the characteristics of inner child work
• Recognize how our inner children become wounded
• Discuss at least five creative ways to address inner child wounding
• Describe how to reparent inner children
