Caregivers are often overlooked when navigating the care needs of their loved one facing medical crises. The strain of physical caregiving coupled with the emotional distress resulting from anticipatory grief can result in burnout, overwhelm, anxiety, and depression. This course introduces clinicians to the concept of anticipatory grief and defines how this unique phase of the grief process might impact caregiver efficacy. Clinicians who are well-versed in the assessment and treatment of anticipatory grief are better equipped to support the entire family system when addressing the needs of clients who are living with serious medical conditions.
