Cultural factors affect all aspects of mental health care, from the patterning of patient symptoms to the illness classifications of clinicians and the language used to co-construct illness narratives. How can clinicians enhance their cultural competence in understanding the dynamics that impact the perception of mental health services and cultural practices related to mental well-being? This webinar will introduce learners to the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI). The CFI is a strengths-based, structured interview that encourages the clinician to enter the world of clients with unique cultural identities and experiences. Discover methods of assessing help-seeking, perceptions of the problem, and cultural and community responses to mental health conditions.
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify at least five core components of the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI).
- Explain two benefits of using the CFI in clinical practice.
- Determine methods of facilitating the CFI with clients who have unique cultural identities.
