Nature has long offered refuge, reflection, and restoration—but for trauma survivors, connection to the natural world can also be a vital resource for healing. This experiential training invites mental health professionals to explore how eco-mindfulness—mindful awareness grounded in natural environments— can support nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and grief integration for clients navigating trauma.
Drawing from research in ecopsychology, contemplative practice, and somatic regulation, this course offers a gentle, trauma-informed framework for incorporating nature-based interventions into therapy. Participants will learn how mindful sensory engagement with natural elements can support grounding, presence, and a reconnection to safety and embodiment, even in the aftermath of overwhelm or disconnection.
Through guided practices, case examples, and group reflection, clinicians will explore accessible and culturally humble approaches to integrating eco-mindfulness into clinical work. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing the diverse ways clients may relate to nature—whether through awe, fear, grief, or longing—and how to meet those experiences with care and flexibility. You’ll leave with a range of tools and adaptations that can be used in-session, outdoors, or even through imaginal and symbolic connection to nature.
Whether you’re offering walk-and-talk sessions, practicing in a hospital or telehealth setting, or simply curious about the healing power of the natural world, this training will help you bring the earth into your work in safe, respectful, and meaningful ways.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the psychological and physiological benefits of eco-mindfulness for trauma recovery.
- Identify at least three trauma-sensitive nature-based practices that support regulation and healing.
- Apply somatic and mindfulness tools that incorporate natural elements in clinical or group settings.
- Evaluate considerations for accessibility, safety, and cultural context when offering eco-based interventions.
