Individuals who struggle with substance use can benefit from the many skills available in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). This training will provide an overview of the dynamics of substance use, including diagnosis and assessment. Learners will be introduced to the core tenets of DBT, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Learners will be shown how to apply DBT skills such as validation, acceptance, and wise mind in supporting clients to overcome patterns of addiction and achieve sobriety. Discover how concepts of treatment butterflies and total abstinence are relevant to recovery for individuals with substance use.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe at least three dynamics of substance use and identify appropriate assessment tools.
- Explain the core DBT philosophy and describe the four core skills.
- Identify at least ten DBT skills that are appropriate for integration into substance use recovery treatment.
