Culturally responsive supervision and developmental models for mental health trainees are two crucial aspects of effective counselor education and supervision. While culturally responsive supervision focuses on adapting supervisory practices to meet the unique cultural needs of supervisees, developmental models describe the stages of growth that mental health trainees typically experience throughout their training and early career. These two approaches can be integrated to create a comprehensive framework for counselor supervision that is both culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate.
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the core principles of culturally responsive supervision, including the integration of sociocultural and linguistic considerations throughout the supervisory relationship.
- Identify and explain the key stages of counselor development, from novice to expert, and the distinct skills, confidence levels, and supervisory needs associated with each stage.
- Analyze how integrating culturally responsive supervision models with developmental frameworks addresses both the cultural and developmental needs of counselors in training.
- Practice applying culturally responsive supervision strategies that are tailored to the developmental level and cultural identity of their supervisees.
- Evaluate strategies to foster supervisors’ capacity to address cultural competence and developmental challenges in the supervisory process.
