Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) are traumatic events that occur before the age of 18. These experiences have a significant impact on lifelong physical and mental health, future victimization or perpetration, and overall well-being. According to the Centers for Disease Control (2020) 61% of adults surveyed across 25 states reported that they had at least one adverse childhood experience. The use of creative techniques in therapy continues to grow; and using creative techniques to treat ACES can increase clients’ overall quality of life. This training will look more closely at ACES, and how creative techniques can be used to help clients face their ACES.

Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and define the major categories of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and explain their prevalence and impact on individuals across the lifespan.
  • Analyze the relationship between ACEs, brain development, behavior, and long-term physical and mental health outcomes.
  • Apply trauma-informed principles to recognize, respond to, and support individuals using practical and creative techniques to help the healing of ACES.
