This course is designed to provide mental health professionals with a comprehensive understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), including its assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment approaches. We will be exploring the criteria and diagnostic challenges of BPD, including a discussion of differential diagnoses and the stigma that is associated with this diagnosis. We will discuss the use of treatment models to address the challenges of Borderline Personality Disorder, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPs), and other psychodynamic and cognitive individual and group therapies.

Meet Your Facilitator

Jillian Graves, LCSW, Ph.D. is an associate professor at Eastern Michigan University in the School of Social Work.  Her scholarly work has focused on the experiences of family caregivers, especially siblings, in adolescent and emerging adult development, in reflexivity in qualitative research methodology, and in trauma-reactive violence.  Her most recent research has been on the impact of COVID-19 on retail workers’ mental health and the use of relational coordination as a mitigating factor.  She is currently the co-director of the IPE Center in the College of Health and Human Services.
