Clients may understand a behavior, regret its consequences, and genuinely want to change – yet continue repeating the same pattern. This practical training teaches behavior chain analysis and solution analysis as structured, nonjudgmental methods for understanding what happens between trigger and action. Participants learn to identify vulnerability factors, prompting events, thoughts, emotions, body sensations, urges, environmental influences, and short-term consequences; locate realistic intervention points; and turn the analysis into a concrete plan the client can practice. Clinical case examples are used throughout so participants leave with a process they can apply immediately.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify vulnerability factors, environmental conditions, and short-term consequences that can maintain a repeated behavior despite insight or motivation.
- Sequence the prompting event, internal and external links, target behavior, and consequences in a behavior chain analysis.
- Determine the immediate function served by a repeated behavior within a clinical case example.
- Match an intervention to the identified function or a feasible point of change within the behavioral sequence.
- Create a solution plan that specifies an alternative response, anticipated barrier, rehearsal strategy, and backup response.
