Therapists are not immune to the impacts of anxiety, overwhelm, and personal distress yet many clinicians struggle to acknowledge their own emotional needs while continuing to support others. This webinar will provide mental health professionals with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy based strategies to recognize and respond to personal experiences of anxiety, guilt, and emotional overload. Participants will explore common patterns of emotional avoidance and cognitive fusion that occur within the therapeutic profession, particularly during periods of high stress. Through guided exercises and values clarification activities, clinicians will learn practical, evidence-based tools to enhance psychological flexibility, improve emotional resilience, and cultivate a sustainable, values-driven approach to self-care and professional boundaries.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify common forms of emotional avoidance and cognitive fusion experienced by
therapists during periods of personal and professional stress. - Apply ACT-based defusion, acceptance, and values clarification exercises to manage
personal anxiety, guilt, and overwhelm. - Develop a realistic, values-driven action plan for sustainable therapist self-care and
boundary setting.
