This foundational webinar introduces psychotherapists to Polyvagal Theory, a groundbreaking framework developed by Dr. Stephen Porges that deepens our understanding of the autonomic nervous system and its role in trauma, safety, and connection. Participants will learn how the body’s physiological states—mobilization, shutdown, and social engagement—affect emotional regulation, behavior, and therapeutic outcomes. The training will explore how to apply polyvagal-informed strategies to help clients track their nervous system responses, build capacity for regulation, and restore a sense of safety and connection in the therapy room. Emphasis will be placed on practical tools, language, and interventions that align with this neurobiological model.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the three primary states of the autonomic nervous system as outlined in Polyvagal Theory.
  • Identify how shifts in nervous system states influence client behavior, affect regulation, and therapeutic engagement.
  • Apply at least two polyvagal-informed strategies to support clients in increasing safety, regulation, and social connection.
