When a client walks into your clinical space and states that they are “poly” or live a “kink” lifestyle, do you find yourself confused? Perhaps you may notice some judgment or a desire to assign pathology. Do you wonder if they are safe, being manipulated, or need to be fixed? Even if this is not what comes up for you, for a lot of clients who identify as kink or poly, these worries about perceptions, even from a trusted clinician, can keep them from being open about lifestyle choices. This webinar will introduce participants to information about these relationship structures, terms and meanings, and ways in which we can start to support these clients.

Explain basic Kink/BSDM/Poly definitions and terminology
Describe at least one way to provide a safe, kink/poly-affirming therapy space
Identify at least one way to decrease kink/poly-related shame and stigma in therapeutic relationships

Meet Your Facilitator

Stacy Blankenship is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapist completing her training at The Linehan Institute in 2015. Her passion to empower others is enhanced by more than ten years of experience working with individuals and groups in a variety of therapeutic settings. Stacy is adept at matching various forms of clinical interventions to best meet the needs of each individual.

In her current professional capacity, Stacy designs and teaches group therapy sessions for people attending the IOP and PHP programs, administers clinical assessments, conducts individual and family therapy sessions, and supervises interns. She has a wide range of knowledge and interests to supplement her clinical approach. Stacy is proficient in teaching Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Illness Management Recovery, Wellness Recovery Action Planning, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion, Positive Psychology, and Emotional Agility techniques. Stacy has thorough knowledge of crisis management skills and has a certification in Critical Incident Stress Management.
