This introductory webinar provides an overview of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a psychotherapy approach widely used in the treatment of trauma and other distressing life experiences. Participants will explore the history, development, and theoretical underpinnings of EMDR. The course highlights appropriate clinical uses for EMDR, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and grief, and addresses key considerations for safe, ethical, and culturally responsive practice. Designed for mental health professionals, this webinar offers foundational knowledge about the EMDR modality to support further training, informed client care, and professional development in trauma-informed psychotherapy. (This is not an EMDR training).

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the core principles and theoretical foundations of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
  • Recognize the types of clinical issues and populations for which EMDR may be an appropriate treatment approach.
  • Discuss ethical considerations and scope of practice related to EMDR implementation
