Explore the shift from cultural competence frameworks toward a more dynamic practice of cultural humility. Participants will explore how this paradigm shift transforms therapeutic relationships through continuous self-reflection, client-centered learning, and power-balanced partnerships. The course examines practical strategies for implementing cultural humility in diverse clinical settings, addressing implicit bias, navigating power differentials, and fostering genuine cross-cultural engagement. Through case studies and reflective exercises, clinicians will develop skills to create more authentic, responsive therapeutic environments that honor clients’ cultural identities and lived experiences.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between cultural competence and cultural humility frameworks, including identifying the limitations of cultural competence approaches.
- Implement reflective practices that identify personal biases, cultural assumptions, and power dynamics within the therapeutic relationship.
- Demonstrate strategies for implementing cultural humility in practice, including self-awareness development, acknowledging limitations, and addressing power dynamics in therapeutic relationships.
