Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN) occurs when a child’s emotional needs are consistently overlooked, ignored, or invalidated. Its effects can persist into adulthood, shaping self-esteem, emotional awareness, relationships, and coping patterns in ways that are often subtle but deeply impactful. This training provides clinicians with an essential understanding of CEN’s roots, manifestations, and long-term psychological consequences. This training will explore assessment considerations, the role of attachment and developmental trauma, and initial therapeutic strategies for helping clients reconnect with their emotions, heal self-worth wounds, and build healthier relational patterns.
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe Childhood Emotional Neglect and distinguish it from other forms of abuse or trauma.
- Identify at least three common patterns or symptoms in adults who experienced CEN.
- Analyze two initial therapeutic strategies to help clients increase emotional awareness and begin repairing the effects of CEN.
