Holiday grief refers to the experience of intensified sorrow, sadness, or emotional pain that individuals may feel during holidays due to the loss of a loved one or other significant life changes. This type of grief is unique because holidays—typically associated with joy, family, traditions, and togetherness—can sharply highlight what or who is missing. While any person experiencing grief will report that the cycle of grief presents challenges to effective coping throughout the calendar year, bereavement professionals recognize that the holidays may present additional barriers, triggers, and reminders for their grieving clients. This workshop will provide clinicians with applicable tools to use in support of clients facing holiday-induced grief.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define grief from a holiday perspective.
  • Establish clinical practices for monitoring and supporting grief.
  • Explore practical interventions for managing holiday grief.
