Exploring Dynamics and Interventions for Youth Suicide (2HR)

This youth suicide prevention and intervention webinar prepares mental health professionals to effectively assess and respond to suicidal ideation and behavior in children and adolescents. Participants will learn how to conduct developmentally appropriate suicide risk assessments, identify warning signs, and address unique considerations such as peer influence, family dynamics, identity development, and access to means. The course emphasizes the importance of cultural humility and responsiveness to the diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences of youth. Clinicians will be introduced to evidence-based clinical interventions, including safety planning, therapeutic engagement, and collaboration with families and schools. A variety of resources and referral options will be shared to support comprehensive and coordinated care.

Upon completion of this training participants will be able to:

• Implement evidence-based clinical interventions and safety planning strategies to support at-risk youth and engage families and community resources in ongoing care and prevention efforts.
• Conduct developmentally appropriate suicide risk assessments for youth, incorporating clinical tools, observational data, and collateral information from caregivers and support systems.
• Identify and address unique developmental, cultural, and contextual factors that influence suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and adolescents.
