Working with Veterans: Co-morbidity of Substance Use Disorder & PTSD (2HR)
Description
A discussion of how to identify the disorders, ask and answer the question ”‘which do I treat first?’”, and explore evidence-based interventions and treatment methodologies for working with veterans with SUD & PTSD co-morbid diagnoses.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain the prevalence and impact of co-occurring PTSD and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) among veterans.
- Identify common symptoms and behaviors associated with PTSD and SUD in the veteran population.
- Analyze the neurobiological and psychosocial links between trauma exposure, PTSD development, and substance use.
- Describe evidence-based psychotherapeutic treatments for co-occurring PTSD and SUD.
- Apply therapeutic frameworks such as DBT behavior chain analysis to clinical case scenarios involving veterans.
