Exploring the Cultural Formulation Interview (1.5 HR)
Cultural factors affect all aspects of mental health care, from the patterning of patient symptoms to the illness classifications of clinicians and the language used to co-construct illness narratives. How can clinicians enhance their cultural competence in understanding the dynamics that impact perception of mental health services and cultural practices related to mental well-being? This training will introduce learners to the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI). The CFI is a strengths-based, structured interview that encourages the clinician to enter the world of clients who have unique cultural identifies and experiences. Discover methods of assessing help seeking, perceptions of the problem, and cultural and community responses to mental health conditions.
