
Ethical Decision Making: Navigating Complex Cases (3HR)

Have you faced complex ethical dilemmas in your practice? Clinicians are often faced with “grey areas” when confronted with ethically complicated cases. This training explores the nature of complex ethics challenges in the mental health field. Specific types of ethical dilemmas that clinicians may face will be presented. Case examples will highlight the complexities and nuances of situations that clinicians face in practice. Learners will be introduced to thorough ethical decision-making frameworks. Learn about ethical decision making in healthcare, schools, mental health settings, and community settings. Gain valuable knowledge, skill, and confidence in leaning into complex ethical dilemmas with professionalism and wisdom.
Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:
- Identify complex ethical dilemmas in key areas of clinical practice settings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of one’s professional code of ethics in resolving ethical dilemmas.
- Evaluate and apply relevant ethics standards to manage ethical dilemmas.
- Formulate reflective and problem-solving strategies to assess, resolve, and document complex ethical dilemmas.

Recorded Live Webinar with downloadable presentation slides and/or handouts, evaluation, and a required quiz. The learner is required to pass with a 70% or higher to achieve the CE certificate of completion. The learner is able to reset the test until a satisfactory score is achieved.

Diane Bigler, LCSW, LSCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri and Kansas with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. She has held clinical positions as an outpatient and in-home therapist, and clinical supervisor. Diane was an Adjunct Professor of Social Work for 10 years at The University of Kansas, School of Social Welfare, and a Field Liaison and Field Instructor. She has also held administrative positions as a Program Director and Coordinator.
