Clinical supervision in social work and mental health is when a supervisor helps social workers and counselors develop their skills and practice. The goal is to protect clients and ensure high-quality services. This course reviews nine models of supervision, guidance in determining a theory-based supervision approach, and an overview of the effectiveness of using a variety of methods and techniques in supervision. The visual, auditory, reader/writer, and kinesthetic or VARK Questionnaire is reviewed to assists supervisors to assess for supervisee’s learning styles.

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:  

  • Review and differentiate between the nine models of supervision and how to choose the best method for optimal supervisee learning.
  • Review the application and implications of using the VARK Questionnaire to determine supervisee learning style.
  • Discuss how to determine a theory-based supervision approach.
  • Discuss the rationale for using a variety of methods and techniques in supervision.

Social workers completing this course receive 3 General Skill Building asynchronous continuing education credits.

For other board approvals, this course qualifies for 3 General Skill Building of continuing education training.
