This comprehensive course provides mental health professionals with practical tools and theoretical foundations for effectively applying Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Participants will begin by exploring the core principles of CBT, including the cognitive model, the identification of automatic thoughts, and the differentiation between facts and interpretations. Building on this foundation, the course will introduce evidence-based techniques such as cognitive restructuring, exposure exercises, and thought records. Special attention will be given to adapting CBT strategies to specific anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, and Agoraphobia. Participants will gain insight into symptom induction, behavioral experiments, and worry postponement methods.

Upon completion of this training participants will be able to:

  • Identify the core tenets of CBT, such as discussing the cognitive model of CBT, examining core beliefs, and identifying automatic thoughts.
  • Apply these core tenets in treatment by using cognitive and behavioral interventions like exposure exercises, cost-benefit analysis, and review of experiences.
  • Analyze how to understand each disorder’s unique cognitive and behavioral issues and how that may inform treatment strategies.

Social workers completing this course receive 3 Clinical asynchronous continuing education credits.

For other board approvals, this course qualifies for 3 hours of Clinical continuing education training.
