Behind Closed Doors: Safety and Support for Domestic Violence Survivors (2HR)
Behind Closed Doors: Safety and Support for Domestic Violence Survivors (2HR)
According to thehotline.org, in the United States, 24 people per minute are victims of intimate partner violence. This training equips mental health professionals with the knowledge and tools to effectively identify, assess, and respond to domestic violence within clinical settings. Participants will explore the psychological dynamics of abuse, trauma-informed therapeutic approaches, and ethical considerations when working with survivors including children, adolescents, and adults. Participants will learn how to conduct effective danger assessments, create individualized safety plans, and navigate complex ethical considerations, including mandated reporting and interagency collaboration. The training emphasizes survivor-centered, trauma-informed strategies that prioritize both safety and empowerment.
Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:
- Apply trauma-informed interventions with survivors experiencing domestic violence in a clinical setting.
- Use a danger assessment screening to identify a client’s risk in relationship(s).
- Create a personalized safety plan in collaboration with a client.
