Course Description

This training explores the ethical responsibilities of psychotherapists to provide culturally competent and socially just care. Grounded in professional codes of ethics and an awareness of systemic inequities, the training invites clinicians to examine how power, privilege, and oppression shape therapeutic dynamics and client experiences. Participants will learn frameworks for deepening cultural humility, addressing implicit bias, and engaging in anti-oppressive clinical practice. Through case examples and reflective dialogue, the training emphasizes the ethical imperative to honor clients’ cultural identities, advocate for equity, and foster inclusivity within the therapeutic relationship and broader systems of care.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

Define cultural competence, cultural humility, and social justice as they relate to ethical psychotherapy practice.
Identify key ethical codes and guidelines that support culturally responsive and anti-oppressive care.
Apply strategies to recognize and address the impact of systemic oppression, bias, and privilege within clinical work.

Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 Ethics asynchronous continuing education credits.

For other board approvals, this course qualifies for 1.5 hours of Ethics continuing education training.

Meet Your Facilitator

Dreya Blume, LCSW, has traveled a long and winding road to arrive where she is today,as a therapist, coach, author, and group facilitator.

She has taught English in Thailand, Japan, Australia, and Hawaii. She has worked in psychiatric wards, served as a case manager, and eventually launched her own private therapy practice.

She has taught part-time as an adjunct professor for over twenty years, led multi-day international retreats, and written seventeen books, with an eighteenth on the way.
