This training is based on the book “Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors: Overcoming Internal Self-Alienation,” by Janina Fisher. We will examine Fisher’s unified theory of healing, which brings together neuroscience, Internal Family Systems Therapy, the Structural Dissociation Model, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. In doing so, we will explore Fisher’s approach to healing trauma, in which a person’s relationship to him or herself is transformed from one of shame and guilt to compassionate self-acceptance.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe Fisher’s theory of trauma resolution
- Identify the importance of physiology in healing trauma
- Utilize practical tools and strategies that can be used with clients who have a complex history of trauma
- Discuss how to integrate parts of the self that were fragmented due to severe trauma
