Target Audience: Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialists, and Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselors.

Course Content: All Levels

Families face risks for addiction, child sexual abuse, violence, and other major causes of toxic stress. This course will review the evidence provided by research and teach participants how to integrate interventions to reduce risks and build resiliency into their practice.

Areas of focus for the course will include the impact of risk factors on individuals, families, and communities. From there the interventions that can be used to reduce these risks will be discussed including examples of how to implement them into practice. Research on the current understanding of efforts of building resiliency versus reducing risks if further discussed in the context of using the information in a psychoeducational way. The clinical use of these strategies, handouts, and Socratic values-based questioning will be completed.

Upon completion of training, participants will be able to:

Identify risk factors & protective factors and provide examples while identifying interventions

Identify the impact of ACES on communities, families, and individuals

Identify risk factors for sexual assault and provide intervention for use with families

Identify prevention (resiliency) for individuals, families, and communities

10:45 am to 11:00 am Break

11:00 am to 11:45 am: Identify risk factors for sexual assault and provide intervention for use with families

Meet Your Facilitator

Leo Bio

Leo DeBroeck is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Child Mental Health Specialist in Washington State. He is CBT Plus certified through the University of Washington and Harborview Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress Center. He has completed his Master’s of Science in Clinical Psychology. He has worked in several different levels of care for mental health treatment including long-term inpatient care, WISe wraparound intensive services, school-based therapy services, and outpatient clinical settings.

He has published peer-reviewed scientific research on young adults related to suicidality. He has written several children’s therapy books, which are self-published and available on, for use in therapy settings addressing grief, self-confidence, addiction, neglect, abuse, and others. He is the president and founder of Counselor’s Choice Award, LLC which reviews and promotes scientifically validated counseling products, therapeutic tools, and books.

The cost of the training includes a pdf of the presentation slides and any supplemental training materials and a certificate of completion.

Upon completion of the webinar, participants will receive an email with a link to complete an evaluation. Once completed, the participant will be able to download/print the certificate.
