Supervision Essentials for the Practice of Competency-Based Supervision

A 2-Day Clinical Supervision Workshop adapted from the book

“Supervision Essentials for the Practice of Competency-Based Supervision”

Based on the book by Carol A. Falendar & Edward P. Shrafanske

What is supervision? Supervision is critical to the practice of therapy. Supervision has been designed as an intervention provided by a more senior member of a profession to a more junior colleague or colleagues who typically but not always are members of the same profession. This relationship is evaluative and hierarchal, extends over time, and has the simultaneous purpose of enhancing the professional functioning of the more junior persons while monitoring the quality of professional service offered to the clients that he or she sees and serving as a gatekeeper for the particular profession the supervisee seeks to enter.

Supervision is now recognized as a core competency domain for clinical therapists and guidelines have been created to facilitate the provision of competent supervision across professional groups. In this clinical supervision competency training series, we consider major approaches to the supervisory practice to include those that are based on theoretical orientation as well as identifying and discussing key issues that typically need to be addressed in the supervisory relationship.

Target Audience:
Clinical Supervisors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Addiction Counselors, LMFT, & Licensed Professional Counselors who are in a supervisory role.
